The communication protocol FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and 'used to transfer files from one computer to another through the use of an FTP server and FTP client programs.

For those who use Firefox as Web client knows that can 'use this program to connect to an FTP site.

 

Just write in the address bar the address of an FTP site that begins with ftp://

To test how it works visit my ftp site that you find on ftp://marco2000.homeunix.net

There will be 'asked for a userid and password.

filezilla

Another program to use the FTP protocol and 'Filezilla, a free program available on this site.

Below the screen work.

I have reproduced the ftp session that I use to this site ...

 

Basically, the program shows your PC and the remote machine.

We can send files from your computer to the remote machine, or vice versa ...

If we want to write a site and put it online, we need this program.

Even for this protocol there are clients from the terminal.
Of course they all linux distributions and some Windows version ...

As you can see I consider myself intelligent people so the examples you see are all from my Linux system (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS).
