Kanhaiya Kumar Beaten Up, Sent To Judicial Custody At Tihar Jail For 14 Days
Arrested JNUSU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who was unlawfully arrested on charges of sedition on February 9, was produced in court today. Similar to yesterday’s assault by a group of right-wing lawyers on JNU professors, students and journalists, violence erupted again at the court house as Kanhaiya was produced. He was severely beaten up in judicial custody and had to be treated by doctors on the spot. The same lawyers who had beat and harrassed teachers were responsible for today’s attack, yet no arrests have been made of yet. Kanhaiya was ordered to judicial custody in Tihar Jail for next 14 days.
In Delhi University, more than 500 students, mostly women, gathered outside Arts Faculty in North Campus in solidarity with the struggle in JNU. As a crew of abusive ABVP men hurled threats of killing the ‘anti-nationals’ with guns and bullets, they stood together shouting slogans and speeches.
A student activist from Disha who had attended the protest was beaten up by ABVP as they were heading to the Chemistry department. ABVP members also tore posters on campus put up by protesting students.
JNUSU has called for a rally tomorrow, 2pm at Mandi House.
