Monday, January 30 | More than 20,000 Londoners protested Trump’s outrageous 90-day travel-ban against travellers from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the U.S. Crowds assembled outside Number 10 Downing Street, the British PM’s headquarters, condemning her silence on Trump’s policy, and her refusal to revoke the invitation for Trump’s state visit to the UK.
The march was organised via social media, through a Facebook event page created by journalist Owen Jones, which had RSVPs from around 30,000 people within a day’s notice. The official statement on the page read: “Theresa May has decided to ally herself with Donald Trump’s bigoted, misogynistic government. She has refused to speak out against Donald Trump’s #MuslimBan – even when her own Members of Parliament are targeted. It is not only weak, it is a matter of national shame – disgracing our country across the world. Theresa May has betrayed her own people. That doesn’t mean we have to. Let’s stand in solidarity with those targeted by Donald Trump’s hateful government, including the people of this country, outside Downing Street and all over Britain.”
