Nothing - ha. The general midi parameters the SP defaults too are the correct settings needed to control a midi device such as the S950. S950: 1. Take your sample - i'm sure ya'll know how to do that. 2. After taking your sample, push the "edit prgm" button. 3. The S950 will default to KG1 - key group 1. It's in this screen that you can create as many key groups as you want. Each sample you want to trigger from the S950 needs it's own keygroup. So for example, if you cut up a sample into (5) peices and name the peices: Chop 1, Chop 2, Chop 3. You'll need to (3) key groups to trigger them all from the SP. 4. Go to screen (15). 5. Once your in screen (15), adjust the "one shot" mode from "off" to "on". This is crucial. If you don't do that, the SP will not trigger. Also, set "constant pitch" to "on". Constant pitch makes it so that the SP does not affect the pitch of the sample based on which pads you trigger from. The pitch is only determined by your settings on the S950. 6. Now that you've done all that skip back to screen (5). In this screen, you'll see a portion that says "soft sample: Tone". Highlight "Tone" and use your data wheel to scroll through your own samples. For example, when turning the wheel, "Tone" will cycle through "Chop 1", "Chop 2", etc. Once you've selected your sample, you'll notice additional options that relate to the key group range. Remember that screen "edit prgm, page (5)", as we'll come back to it in just a second. 7. The key group range is the range in which you select which pad on the SP will trigger your sound. Now, i've used the SP long enough to have every key group memorized to which pad will trigger it. That said, I don't expect ya'll to be Jedi masters like me, so i'll hip you to a screen where you can find out which pad corresponds with each group! 8. Press the "midi" button. 9. After pressing the midi button you'll notice the first screen is the S950 midi channel select screen. DO NOT mess with this. Leave "omni" on, and leave default channel (1) as it is. Instead, go to page (4?). Page (4) should be the "midi recieve monitor" screen. How this page works is, when you hit a pad on your SP, it will show it's corresponding key group range for the S950. *if your hitting your SP pads and the S950 is not showing the key group range, your midi cables are not hooked up correctly. A fail safe way to make sure you got your midi cables hooked up properly is hit the SP pad and see if the "midi recieve" indicator light on the upper right of the S950 flashes. 10. So now we've hit the pad(s) we want the SP to trigger from, and we've got the key group range(s). 11. Now press the "edit prgram" button again. Go to page (5). 12. Now under where it says "soft sample" you'll see the "hi" and "lo" key group ranges. They should be set to something like "lo = 30", "hi= 128" or something like that. Now, this is critical so make sure you remember this. In order to trigger samples from the SP, the "lo" and "hi" key groups have to be the same. So for example, SP "bank A", pad (1), = C3 60. So select the sample you wish to trigger, set the key ranges to both read "C3 60". Hit the SP pad and you should hear your sample. There you have it. It seems more complex then it is cause of the way I wrote it out, but belive me, it's mad simple. In a weeks time you'll be triggering samples with ease. Peace: _________________ --- chart for sp n 950 http://img272.imageshack.us/img272/9045/spchart13ck.jpg created by JAEONE thanks ! --- Yo, if u made a boot disk to the DFACE system I've got two more cents for ya. In screen 5 of the edit program menu. When you are assigning the s950 key groups to the SP MIDI notes, instead of leaving the soft sample names the default (TONE). Name the sample the SP pad you want to trigger it from. Example... KG1, midi = C3, soft sample = A1 KG2, midi = C3# soft sample = A2........ Repeat for s950 keygroups 1 - 32... (SP pads A1 - D8) The idea is that when you are sampling on the s950 you name sample to be recorded the SP pad you want to trigger it from and BAM its there. --- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXP13duwPaY youtube s950 video manual --- If I get you right you want to play the sample monophonic. The way you can do it on the 950 is to change the output of the keygroup(s) from ALL(00) (witch is the default setting) to one of the 8 outs. (EDIT PRGRM -> Page 17) The 8 Outs are monophonic and can only play one sample at a time so the next sample cut off the previous sample. You dont have to connect the 8 output to your mixer (if you have one) since the mix out represents all outputs in that one connection. You can also set different samples (keygroups) to one of the 8 outputs and they will cut each other. Perfect for flipping some sliced samples. peace ---end of phile---
