Avete un blog su Noblogs e le statistiche che gia’ ci sono non soddisfano le
vostre curiosita’ maniacali? Usavate un contatore commerciale sul vostro
sito e vi abbiamo bacchettato? Siete a caccia di stimoli nuovi e perversi? Ecco
quello che fa per voi: le nuove statistiche!
Dopo anni di richieste, preghiere e minacce, oggi anche gli appassionati utenti
di Autistici/Inventati possono finalmente usufruire di un servizio di
statistiche degli accessi ai loro contenuti.
Le nuove statistiche web di Autistici/Inventati coprono sia i siti ospitati sui
nostri server, sia i blog di Noblogs.org, e sono basate su Piwik
(http://piwik.org), che e’ software libero.
Attivare uno strumento di questo tipo all’interno di una realta’ come
A/I non e’ una scelta facile, perche’ in genere preferiamo astenerci dal
raccogliere i dati degli utenti, ma in questo caso abbiamo valutato i pro e i
contro e hanno vinto i pro.
Il fatto e’ che raccogliere statistiche significa controllare tutte le
visite alle pagine web dei siti in questione e verificarne la provenienza, e
questa attivita’ si puo’ spesso associare a una profilazione degli
utenti, profilazione legata di frequente a indagini di mercato e alla
conservazione dei log. Ma a differenza dei servizi commerciali come GoogleAds,
nel nostro caso prendiamo in esame soltanto alcuni dettagli, come i link da cui
provengono le visite, mentre non teniamo in alcun modo gli IP, gli indirizzi che
associano le visite registrate a persone in carne e ossa, e abbiamo anche
eliminato dal software delle statistiche plugin piu’ intrusivi come quelli
che verificano il paese da cui provengono le visite e le dimensioni dello
schermo del visitatore.
Inoltre, utilizzando plugin che ostacolano la profilazione come Adblock per
Firefox, i visitatori possono evitare di essere rilevati da Piwik.
Questo ha per il gestore del sito lo svantaggio di non poter conteggiare tutti i
visitatori, ma ha il vantaggio di garantire a chi naviga nel sito la scelta di
non essere rilevato. Potete comunque avvertire i vostri amici di disabilitare
Adblock per il vostro particolare sito/blog e il problema sara’ in parte
aggirato.
Se invece e’ a voi che non piace l’idea di profilare i vostri lettori,
non temete: Piwik non viene attivato automaticamente bensi’ solo per scelta
del singolo amministratore del sito/blog.

Considerate comunque che le statistiche sono pubbliche e che quindi chiunque
puo’ visualizzarle. Questo ha per risvolto che potete anche pubblicarle voi
sul vostro sito, usando tutta una serie di appositi widget.
In ogni caso, vi raccomandiamo caldamente di usare piwik se in questo momento
state usando un contatore commerciale (come shinystat), che come avrete gia’
letto nella nostra policy ( http://www.autistici.org/it/who/policy.html ) va
assolutamente evitato negli spazi di A/I, in quanto contrasta con la tutela
dell’anonimato che tentiamo il piu’ possibile di salvaguardare.

Brutto inizio d’anno, questo del 2009: tra i segni cupi che ci circondano,
uno di quelli che ci ha piu’ turbato e’ stato lo scombero di Cox18, il
centro sociale occupato che ha fatto la storia degli hacker italiani e che
ospita la libreria Calusca e l’Archivio Primo Moroni, vera e propria memoria
storica dell’antagonismo, non solo milanese. Come speravamo, comunque, il 13
febbraio Cox 18 e’ stato ripreso, e gia’ sono previste molte iniziative,

Nel frattempo a Milano si prepara anche, per il 28 febbraio, la manifestazione
nazionale contro le logiche securitarie, per l’autogestione e gli spazi

A proposito di logiche securitarie, che spacciano per sicurezza un pacchetto
legge che viola diritti elementari come quello alla salute in una carnevalata
che sarebbe quasi ridicola se non fosse intrisa di un putrido odore di fascismo
dilagante, per martedi’ grasso vi suggeriamo di partecipare a una
carnevalata molto meno ridicola e molto piu’ divertente: il 24 febbraio

You have a blog with Noblogs but the available statistics don’t satisfy your
manic curiosity? You were using a commercial counter in your website and
we’ve told you off? You’re looking for newer and more insane
distractions? Now you can get what you needed: Autistici/Inventati’s new
statistics!
After years and years of requests, pleas and threats, finally our keen users can
use a service which counts visits in their sites and blogs.
Autistici/Inventati’s new web statistics include both websites hosted in our
servers and Noblogs.org blogs, and are based on Piwik (http://piwik.org), which
is free software.
Activating this kind of tool within our services wasn’t an easy decision for
A/I, since we prefer not to keep users’ data, but in this case we weighed up
the pros and cons, and the pros won.
The point is that gathering web statistics means monitoring every visit to the
relevant websites and identifying their origin, and this activity can be easily
associated with user profiling, which is often linked with market research and
log keeping. But contrary to commercial services as GoogleAds, in our case we
only survey some details, such as the URLs from which visits originate: instead,
we don’t keep IPs, the addresses associating visits to real persons, and we
also got rid of the most intrusive plugins like the ones checking the country of
origin of each visit and the visitor’s screen size.
Besides, by using plugins against profiling such as Adblock on Firefox, visitors
can hide from Piwik’s monitoring. For the owner of the site this can be a
drawback because she won’t be able to count every visit, but for web surfers
it has the advantage of offering the possibility not to be counted. However, you
can suggest your friends to disable Adblock just for your website/blog and the
problem will be partly solved.
If it’s you who don’t like the idea of profiling your readers, don’t
worry: Piwik is not activated by default, but only if a website/blog admin
chooses to do so.

Consider however that this service is public and therefore anyone can look up
your statistics. This also implies that you can publish your stats in your
website, by using a number of widgets.
In any case, we warmly suggest you to use Piwik if you are currently using a
commercial counter (like Shinystat): actually, as you will have already read in
our policy ( http://www.autistici.org/en/who/policy.html ), this kind of
commercial services must be absolutely avoided in A/I’s web spaces since it
conflicts with anonymity protection we try to implement as best as possible.

A bad year start, this year: among the gloomy signals surrounding us, one of the
most disturbing for us was the eviction of Cox18, the Milanese squat which wrote
the history of Italian hackers and which hosts the historical Calusca City
Lights Bookshop and the Primo Moroni Archive, which keeps record not only of
left-winged antagonist struggles in Milan, but all over Italy:

As we all hoped, the squat was re-occupied on the 13th February and there’s
a lot of activities going on there.
Meanwhile, in Milan a national demonstration has been announced for the 28th

As regards the security frenzy which is haunting us, in Italy they’re trying
to pass a package of laws that violates fundamental rights like the right to
health assistance for irregular migrants.

We cannot but look at this trend as a kind of bad joke, which would make us
laugh if it wasn’t soaked with a putrid stench of increasing Fascism, and on
