++ Cio che deve accadere ha da cadere

Il Piano R*, ormai a lungo annunciato, e’ alle porte. Mancano poche ore al
lancio, e finora vi abbiamo parlato delle motivazioni strategiche che ci hanno spinti
a questo cambio di struttura, lasciandovi solo supporre (magari con qualche
brivido) che ci sarebbe stato un cambiamento anche per chi i servizi di A/I li usa.
I cambiamenti in realta’ non dovrebbero essere affatto traumatici e, anzi,
ce ne sono alcuni che forse renderanno persino le cose piu’ comode, ma
andiamo per ordine: quella che segue e’ una newsletter tecnica per spiegare
nel modo piu’ semplice possibile quali sono le modifiche che vi riguardano
direttamente.

Prima di tutto uno schema riassuntivo dei nuovi parametri, senza dettagli.

+++ CHE STA PER SUCCEDERE, IN PRATICA

La prima novita’, la piu’ evidente, e’ quella del pannello utente,
da cui si accedera’ dalla homepage dei nostri siti (http://www.inventati.org
– http://www.autistici.org).

Da dopodomani in poi, tutti gli utenti che vorranno accedere a un servizio da
browser lo faranno attraverso un’interfaccia comune, il Pannello.
Bastera’ entrare nel Pannello per avere accesso a tutti i servizi, dalla
webmail fino alla gestione dei siti web. Per entrarci bastera’ scrivere il proprio
indirizzo e-mail COMPLETO (es. xxx@inventati.org) e la propria password.

Per quanto riguarda gli utenti di posta, la prima cosa da sapere e’ che, dal
momento in cui il piano sara’ operativo, le vostre caselle non si troveranno
piu’ tutte sulla stessa macchina: infatti, distribuiremo
le mailbox in modo casuale tra macchine diverse sparse in giro per il mondo, in
modo da ridurre quanto piu’ possibile il rischio di interruzione dei servizi.

Nel caso in cui la macchina su cui si trova la vostra casella venisse travolta
da un uragano, dalle cavallette o da una meteorite, la vostra utenza verrebbe trasferita
immediatamente su un’altra macchina.
In questo modo speriamo di potervi assicurare (quasi del tutto) la
continuita’ della comunicazione.

Purtroppo, invece, CONTINUEREMO A NON POTER DARE GRANDI GARANZIE riguardo alla
conservazione del contenuto della vostra mailbox in casi estremi. Per questo vi raccomandiamo
ancora una volta di scaricare le mail sul vostro computer per mezzo di un client di posta
(Thunderbird, tra tutti, e’ quello che ci sentiamo di raccomandarvi:

In questo modo, oltre ad alleggerire i nostri stanchi hard disk,
miglioreranno anche in misura considerevole le condizioni di
riservatezza delle vostre comunicazioni.

Oltre a questo, ci sono alcune precisazioni da fare sui parametri di posta
(che sono elencati schematicamente qui:

1. Tanto per cominciare, il vostro nome utente dovra’ essere seguito dal suo
dominio, proprio come succede per accedere al pannello (es. xxx@inventati.org), e per
quasti tutti i servizi commerciali di questo mondo.

2. Il server POP/IMAP e’, PER TUTTI, mail.autistici.org e
il server SMTP e’, per TUTTI, smtp.autistici.org.

Se prima usavate mail.inventati.org e smtp.inventati.org, correggete le
impostazioni.

3. Tutti gli altri parametri non cambiano, ma ultimamente abbiamo avuto problemi
di intolleranza tra alcuni fornitori d’accesso e le nostre impostazioni per la
spedizione della posta – se avete problemi di questo tipo, sul blog

The R+ Plan transition

The long expected R+ Plan will be launched in two days. Up to now we have been
telling you about the strategical motivations that led us to this structural
change, and we have only briefly mentioned (perhaps inducing some shivers) that changes
would also affect our users.
Actually changes should not be serious: indeed, some of them
will even make things easier. But let’s start from the beginning: in this
newsletter you will find a very simple explanation of all changes regarding you directly.

First of all:

The first and most evident news is the user’s panel [login from home page].
Starting from the day after tomorrow, all users wishing to access a service
online will need to log into a common interface.
To access any service, from webmail to websites management, you will only need
to log into the Panel. To do so, you will just have to enter your entire e-mail address
(e.g. xxx@inventati.org) and your password.

As regards mail users, the first thing you need to know is that when the Plan R+
will be functioning your mailboxes will not be located on the same computer anymore: we
have actually dislocated mailboxes at random among different servers distributed
around the world, so as to reduce as much as possible the danger of a service
interruption.

If the computer where your mailbox is located is distroyed by a hurricane,
by locusts or by a meteorite, your account will be immediately moved to
another server. By doing so, we hope to protect you (almost entirely) from
any communication breakdown.

Unfortunately we still cannot offer you reliable assurance that your mailbox
content will be safeguarded in emergency cases. We therefore advice you
once again to download your mail in your computer through a mail client
Thunderbird is, among many, the one we can recommend you most:

If you download your mail in your computer, you will both relieve the burden of
our fatigued hard disks and improve considerably the privacy of your
communication.

This said, it will be useful to highlight some issues about the new parametres:

1. First of all, Your username will have to be followed by its domain, just as
when logging into the panel
(e.g. xxx@inventati.org).
2. Check that the POP/IMAP server is mail.autistici.org and that the SMTP server
is smtp.autistici.org.
If your POP/IMAP and SMTP servers were mail.inventati.org and smtp.inventati.org
respectively, change the settings.
3. There are no othemore parametres changing, but lately there have been some
problems with the filters of some ISPs (Telecom Italia most of all), and this
has made it difficult to send e-mails.
